Muscle Energy Technique (MET) for Shoulder Pain: Restoring Motion Through Evidence-Based Rehabilitation

Shoulder pain is a common musculoskeletal complaint and may be associated with rotator cuff disorders, adhesive capsulitis, impingement syndrome, or postural dysfunction. Pain and muscle tightness can restrict range of motion, interfere with daily activities, and reduce overall function.

Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is a manual therapy intervention that uses gentle, voluntary muscle contractions against therapist resistance. A comprehensive program may combine MET with joint mobilization, soft-tissue techniques, rotator cuff and scapular strengthening, postural correction, and functional movement retraining. The specific combination depends on the clinical evaluation and the person’s work, sport, and daily activity goals. Related care may also include a structured rotator cuff rehabilitation program.
